Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s clear things up (pun intended)!

Before you start tossing things in the bin, let’s make sure you know the ins and outs.

We’ve gathered our most asked questions right here, simply click one and we’ll tidy up the answers for you.

  • Can I put a mattress in a Bin?
Yes a mattress can be placed into a bin, but will incure a surcharge.
  • When do I pay?
You can pay for your bin when you book online or at the time of delivery.
  • How big are the skips?
    Skips come in 4 sizes :-3m³ = 1.5m wide x 1.8m long x 1.2m High 4m³ = 1.5m wide x 2.5m long x 1.2m High 6m³ = 1.5m wide x 3.7m long x 1.2m High 9m³ = 1.5m wide x 4.2m long x 1.5m High
  • Are there any weight limits?
Yes, there are weight limits on various bin sizes.3m³ = 0.5 tonne 4m³ = 1 tonne 6m³ = 1.5 tonne 9m³ = 2 tonne If weights are exceeded, then extra charges will apply ($150.00 per 1/2 tonne).
  • How long is the bin hire?
    2 weeks
  • Can I put dirt only in my bins?
No, unfortunately we are no longer able to accept dirt only bins.
  • How far in advance do I need to book my skip bin?
We recommend booking your bin at least a day or two in advance, especially during busy periods (think long weekends and spring clean season)! But if you’re in a pinch, give us a buzz. We often have bins ready to roll for same-day or next-day delivery, depending on your location.
  • Can I get same-day delivery?
In many cases, yes! If you call us early in the day and we’ve got a bin and truck in your area, we’ll do our best to deliver it faster than you can say “Barry’s Bins are the best in the biz.” Availability depends on your suburb and bin size, so give us a call and we’ll make it happen if we can.
  • What areas do you deliver to?
We service a wide range of suburbs across Geelong, the Bellarine and surrounds. If you’re not sure whether we reach your place, just pop your postcode into our online booking tool or give us a call, we’re probably closer than you think!
  • What if I fill the skip bin before the hire period ends?
Go you, getting stuck in! If your bin’s full before your hire time is up, just give us a call. We can arrange an early pickup or even a bin swap if you’ve still got more junk to toss. (It happens, we’ve seen some serious garage clear-outs!)
  • What skip bin is best for a bathroom or kitchen reno?
For most small-to-medium renos like a bathroom or kitchen, our 4m³ or 6m³ skip bins are the sweet spot. They’re big enough to handle old tiles, cabinetry, broken sinks, and all the other “why did we keep this?” items, but compact enough to fit neatly in a driveway.
  • Do you provide skip bins for builders or commercial sites?
Absolutely. We regularly supply skip bins for builders, tradies, landscapers, and other commercial operators. Whether it’s a one-off job or ongoing site work, we’ve got the size and schedule flexibility to keep your site tidy and compliant.
  • Can I hire a skip bin for a quick weekend clean-up?
Yes! Our skip bins are perfect for weekend warriors tackling garage cleanouts, garden blitzes, or pre-sale purges. Book your bin for Friday, fill it over the weekend, and we’ll pick it up on Monday. Too easy.
  • Do I need a permit to put a skip bin on the nature strip or road?
That depends on where you live. In many local council areas you may need a permit to place a skip bin on public land like the road or nature strip. The good news? We can often arrange that for you, or point you in the right direction if it needs to be done by the customer. Just ask!
  • Can I place a skip bin on my driveway, lawn, or private property?
Yes! If it’s your land, no permit needed. Most customers opt to place their bin on the driveway, and our drivers are pros at navigating tight spots. If you’re thinking of putting it on the lawn, just keep in mind that bins are heavy, so you might want to pop down some timber or boards to protect the grass.
  • Will the skip bin damage my driveway?
Our bins sit on metal rollers or runners, so while damage is rare, it’s not impossible, especially on soft surfaces or brand-new concrete. If you’re worried, we suggest laying down old timber planks or plywood to spread the load and protect your driveway. We’re always happy to help with placement tips when we arrive, too.
